Guava leaf extract
The effects of guava leaf extract on the bleeding time and the three main mechanisms of haemostasis: vasoconstriction, platelet aggregation and blood coagulation, were investigated. The water extract of guava leaves did not shorten bleeding times in rats. Guava leaf extract potentiated the vascular muscle contraction induced in rabbits by phenylephrine, and when given alone it stimulated human platelet aggregation in vitro in a dose-dependent manner. On the other hand, it significantly prolonged blood coagulation; activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) test (p < 0.05). The higher the concentration of the extract, the longer APTT was observed. Thus, a water extract of guava leaves showed ambiguous effects on the haemostatic system. Guava leaf extract did not affect bleeding times, it stimulated vasoconstriction and platelet aggregation but it inhibited blood coagulation. Therefore, guava leaf extract is not recommended as a haemostatic agent.

Polyphenol of Guava-leaf
Guava-leaf's polyphenol has an effect of an inhibitor for an enzyme to resolve a blood sugar.to glucoses. Its effect is reported to prevent a diabetes through inhibitting to raise the blood sugar level. "Tannic-acid", a kind of a polyphenol, has an effect to improve the circulation of the blood with removing active-oxygens in the body.
The goal of this study was to elucidate the antiinflammatory activities of Psidium guajava L. (guava) leaf. To improve the functionality of guava leaf, it was fermented with Phellinus linteus mycelia, Lactobacillus plantarum and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The ethanol extract from fermented guava leaf inhibited lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E(2) (PGE(2)) production. Western blot analysis showed that fermented guava leaf extract decreased LPS-induced inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and the cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) protein level in RAW 264.7 cells. To investigate the mechanism involved, the study examined the effect of fermented guava leaf extract on LPS-induced nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-kappaB) activation. Fermented guava leaf extract significantly inhibited LPS-induced NF-kappaB transcriptional activity. Immunochemical analysis revealed that fermented guava leaf extract suppressed LPS-induced degradation of I-kappaBalpha. Taken together, the data indicate that fermented guava leaf extract is involved in the inhibition of iNOS and COX-2 via the down-regulation of NF-kappaB pathway, revealing a partial molecular basis for the antiinflammatory properties of fermented guava leaf extract.
How to Dry Home Grown Guava Leaves for Tea
Guava leaves have been known since ancient times to cure diarrhea and dysentery. They have also been used to treat nausea, vomiting, menstrual pain, sore throats, coughs, swollen gums and ulcers in the mouth. In the United States guava leaf extract has found its way into various herbal formulas including those for promoting weight loss, curing diarrhea and regulating bowel movements. You can easily dry your own guava leaves for tea. Then, brew guava leaf tea by boiling one dried leaf in 4 1/2 cups of water. Add some orange peel if you wish.
1Cut mature organic guava leaves without any blemishes. Use a pruning sheers to harvest medium-sized leaves when the tree is just beginning to form buds. This is when essential oils in the leaves are present in the highest concentration.
2Wash guava leaves in cold water. Shake off the excess water and place the leaves in a single layer on drying screens or trays. Make sure you don't crowd the leaves, and keep them out of direct sunlight. If using trays, turn the leaves every day.
3When leaves are brittle and dry enough to shatter, condition them, advises the University of Missouri Extension. Conditioning, a way to evenly distribute the remaining moisture in dried herbs, requires one or more large nonporous containers. Fill the containers no more than two thirds full, cover them and put them in a warm dry place.
4Mix the leaves in containers daily. If you see any condensation on the lid, return the guava leaves to drying racks to finish drying. Then start the conditioning process over again. Check for spoilage, and toss the leaves if you notice any signs of mold.
5Mix the containers for 10 to 14 days, looking for condensation and spoilage daily.
6Store dried guava leaves in small quantities in airtight containers. Keep the dried leaves at low temperatures in low humidity, away from sunlight. For best results, use dried guava tea leaves within 1 year.
